An extensive number of emotions are present when dealing with a physical health issue, and Ryan is no stranger to these ranging emotions.
Ryan is diagnosed with an infectious disease and he wanted to forget about all of this – he wanted his wish to be a place where his whole family could go, as they are all very close. Since they like to have fun, make memories together, and love beaches, Ryan picked Negril, Jamaica as his Wish destination
because it is known to have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The beaches measured up to all of his expectations and did not disappoint!
This trip was special from the moment Ryan and his family left their house - the room at the resort they stayed in was decorated, beautiful views were abundant, a friendly staff…in Ryan’s words, “it was so perfect.” The family had a lot of fun, enjoyed great food, soaked up the beautiful weather, spent a lot of time on the beach, and just enjoyed being a family. In fact, Ryan’s family loved their time in Jamaica so much that they went back for
another visit recently!
His entire wish experience reminded Ryan that he wasn’t alone and gave him courage to keep on fighting and persevere through the physical and emotional obstacles he was facing. Ryan said that, “Everything Make-A-Wish did for me made me feel special and like they cared about me and like I mattered. It meant a lot to me – I was going through a really hard time and this trip made everything so much better.”
Ryan’s dad further echoed the positive impact it had on Ryan: “It gave him something to look forward to – he hadn’t had that in a long time… We came out of a difficult time right beforehand, but this trip let us know that everything would be okay. My daughter was able to come with us and that was really incredible because we all got to be a family. Ryan is doing better – his healing has improved.” The whole family was very grateful that people, like the staff at Make-A-Wish, and countless donors cared enough to do something like this for Ryan. Their gratitude and appreciation could not be expressed
