DJ wished to shop for everything his heart desired.
When DJ was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in the fall of 2008 he was willing to battle it to the end. He was willing to work hard and fight for his ability to be an athlete as a BMX racer, a New Mexico State Champ at that.
His family fought too. They were willing to go above and beyond to find the best treatment and make sure that DJ was living his life to the fullest. Shortly after DJ was diagnosed he found out other news that he was going to be a father.
As DJ was approached with the choice of his Make-A-Wish he vacillated between many different things; just wanting to make sure that his family, girlfriend and future son would all be included.
DJ decided on a Wish; he decided that he wanted a shopping spree, so that he could have the things that he wanted and make sure that his son would be provided for.
His Wish was granted on May 26, 2009. He was the best shopper anyone has ever seen, one that was money conscience and making sure that every dollar was spent on what he wanted. DJ was selective in his purchases; making sure there was enough money for the important things, like a baby swing and play pen for his son.
DJ had a phenomenal Wish day; he shopped all day, even through the pain. His day made him smile and his family smile too. Those simple smiles, just for a day, were what he needed and his family needed, because throughout his battle it was hard to see the brighter side.
Unfortunately DJ passed the following week after his Wish, however he was comfortable and knew that he left good memories. He was a great son, brother and boyfriend. He would have also been an amazing father.
